09/08/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Carlos Zambrano wasn't happy when Cubs fans booed him during his last start. Zambrano and the Chicago faithful will get a breather from each other tonight when the ace makes a road start in the middle portion of the Cubs' three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park.
Zambrano has lost five straight starts, including three in a row since signing a five-year, $91.5 million contract on August 18 with the Cubs. Things reached a low point on Monday when the Venezuelan was rocked for a career-high tying eight runs on seven hits and five walks in just 4 1/3 innings of work.
The right-hander, who fell to 14-12 on the season with a 4.35 earned run average, was then booed by Cubs fans as he exited the field after being pulled, a criticism the fiery hurler resented after the game verbally.
Zambrano apologized to the fans a day later but perhaps a road start will help cure his woes. The righty is 9-4 in 14 starts away from Wrigley Field this season with a 3.56 ERA.
He is 7-6 with a 4.19 ERA in 18 games (16 starts) lifetime against the Pirates, though he has lost both starts against them in 2007.
Zambrano will also try to help the Cubs get back on the winning track as a whole tonight. Chicago lost the opener of this set, 6-1, on Friday, but remained even with Milwaukee at the top of the National League Central standings after the Brewers lost to the Reds yesterday.
The Cardinals, just one game back in the standings, lost to Arizona on Friday as well.
Geovany Soto and Derrek Lee both ended 2-for-4 for Chicago, which has lost four of its last five games. Rich Hill (8-8) gave up six runs on nine hits over six frames for Chicago.
Hill's counterpart, Tom Gorzelanny, was outstanding for the Pirates in the game. Gorzelanny (14-7) surrendered just one run and six hits over seven solid innings.
Jack Wilson homered for the Pirates, who entered the contest having split a four-game series with St. Louis. Ronny Paulino and Nyjer Morgan both notched a pair of hits in the win that came on the day the Pirates fired general manager Dave Littlefield. The club also named Brian Graham interim GM.
Ian Snell will try to build off a solid outing last time out when he takes the hill for the Pirates. Snell hurled seven shutout innings of an 11-0 spanking of the Cardinals on Monday, scattering five hits and five walks while improving to 9-11 with a 4.01 ERA.
The right-hander has made seven appearances in his career against the Cubs, five of them starts, and is just 1-3 with a 5.65 ERA. He is 0-1 in two starts against them this season.
Pittsburgh is 6-4 against the NL Central-rival Cubs this season, with a 4-3 record in the Steel City. The Pirates are 15-10 in the last 25 matchups against Chicago.

Sportsbook betting odds favor Europe in Ryder Cup
September 19, – Despite holding a decided edge in the all-time series, with 24 wins, 2 ties and 10 losses, Team USA is the underdog again heading into the Ryder Cup in Kidare, Ireland this weekend, according to MySportsbook.com. The Europeans have captured four of the past five editions, including their largest victory ever, an 18 ½ to 9 ½ thumping in Michigan in 2004. Current Ryder Cup betting odds favor the Europeans to continue their winning ways; they are a 4-5 bet to take the title, compared to 6-5 for the Americans.
Despite being knocked out in the first round of World Match play by Shaun Micheel, Tiger Woods is predicted to lead the US charge and be their highest point scorer for the week, with odds listed at 9-4 that he outpoints all other American players, including Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Chris DiMarco to name a few. Team USA has four relatively unknown players on the roster but all four are 2007 tournament winners and have posted some of season’s best performances, each earning over $1.5 million on the PGA TOUR. They include Zach Johnson, Vaughan Taylor, JJ Henry and Brett Wetterich.
The experienced European squad includes the likes of Luke Donald, Sergio Garcia, Padraig Harrington, Jose Maria Olazabal and Darren Clarke, who’s emotions will be tested after the passing of his wife to a battle with cancer. Donald and Garcia are in particularly good form and each is a 5-1 bet to lead the European squad in the points race. Donald has proven he can go head to head with Woods at a major event after a run for the $1.2 million purse at the PGA Championship. Garcia’s Ryder Cup credentials prove he’s ready for battle too.
