02/18/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - One day after suffering a devastating home loss, the New York Rangers will try to rebound when the Chicago Blackhawks enter Madison Square Garden for a Sunday matinee.
New York's fading playoff hopes took a serious hit when the club fell victim to the NHL's basement-dwellers, the Philadelphia Flyers, on Saturday. Simon Gagne and Geoff Sanderson each had a goal and an assist to lead the Flyers to a 5-3 victory.
The Rangers not only lost the game, but will be without Brendan Shanahan for an indefinite period after the All-Star forward suffered a concussion during a frightening collision with Philadelphia's Mike Knuble in the third period.
Shanahan, who leads the Rangers with 28 goals, was temporarily knocked unconscious when his head struck the ice and had to be taken off in a stretcher. The 38-year-old was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital and underwent x-rays and a CT scan, which turned up negative, and was kept overnight for observation.
New York also endured injuries to two other key players on Saturday. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist did not play the third period after being hit in the left shoulder with the puck earlier in the contest, while top defenseman Marek Malik aggravated a shoulder injury that forced him to miss three previous games this month.
Lundqvist is expected to be available for today's matchup, but Malik will likely sit out the game.
Marcel Hossa, Petr Prucha and Matt Cullen accounted for the New York goals while Daniel Girardi had two assists for the Rangers, who entered the day on a three-game win streak.
Michael Nylander assisted on Prucha's tally and has now registered a helper in seven consecutive games.
The Rangers now trail Toronto, which defeated Edmonton Saturday night, by five points for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Chicago is well out of the Western Conference playoff race at the moment and has lost its last two games, both in shootouts. After coming up short against the surging Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday, the Blackhawks were handed a 2-1 loss to Vancouver Friday at the United Center.
Brendan Morrison recorded the clinching goal during the shootout phase and Roberto Luongo made 34 saves to lead the Canucks.
Chicago's Patrick Lalime stopped 28-of-29 chances, but the oft-injured netminder was beaten on both shootout tries. Patrick Sharp had the only goal for the Blackhawks, who have still earned a point in their last three outings.
This will be Chicago's first appearance in Madison Square Garden since coming through with a 4-3 victory there on December 11, 2003. The Blackhawks are 6-1-1 (1 tie) in their last eight trips to Manhattan and unbeaten (3 wins, 1 tie) in their last four overall encounters with the Blueshirts.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year
Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.
Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.
With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.
Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.
Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.

Super Bowl XLIII is now set, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers will meet each other on February 1st in Tampa's Raymond James Stadium to battle it out for the coveted Lombardi Trophy. The game kicks off at 6:00pm ET on NBC with announcers Al Michaels and John Madden covering the on-field action. Super Bowl XLIII betting odds at online bookmaker MySportsbook.com have the Steelers listed as an early -6.5 against the spread favorite.Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds
Pittsburgh earned their passage to the big game by beating their division rival, the Baltimore Ravens, 23-14 in yesterday's AFC Championship Game. The Steelers jumped on Baltimore early, building a 13-0 first half lead, and never let up on their way to a fairly easy win. Although the Ravens did close to within two points in the fourth quarter, it never appeared as if they had enough offense to pull off the upset.
The Steelers dominating defense held Baltimore to a total of 198 yards while allowing them to convert just three third downs in 13 attempts. Pittsburgh also forced quarterback Joe Flacco into three interceptions, one of which safety Troy Polamalu returned fourty yards for a touchdown.
The Cardinals, by far the playoff team with the longest odds to reach Super Bowl XLIII, did so yesterday with a 32-25 upset of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship. Arizona charged out of the gates and built a 24-6 halftime lead that had the Eagles venerable defense reeling. Quarterback Kurt Warner and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald did most of the damage, connecting on three first half touchdowns.
Arizona, however, could not sustain their momentum and the Eagles took a 25-24 with 10:45 left to play in the fourth. The Cardinals, with the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance hanging in the balance, mounted a fourteen play, 72 yard touchdown drive that consumed 7:52 off the clock. Warner hit running back Tim Hightower on a short screen for the go-ahead, game clinching score that will forever live in Cardinal infamy.
MySportsbook.com's Super Bowl XLIII Betting Odds:
Pittsburgh Steelers -6.5 (-110), Over 46.5 (-110), -260 (Money line)
Arizona Cardinals +6.5 (-110), Under 46.5 (-110), +220 (Money line)
Matt Foust won both of his conference championship plays yesterday and he is ready to serve up plenty of Super Bowl action. Each individual play costs $15.00, however, MySportsbook.com recommends purchasing Matt's NFL Playoff Package which includes all of Matt's Super Bowl props and picks from just $45.00.
