09/08/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - C.C. Sabathia goes for win No. 17 this evening when the Cleveland Indians continue their four-game series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Angel Stadium.
Sabathia, who is one win off the pace of New York's Chien-Ming Wang and Boston's Josh Beckett for the major league lead, has been brilliant for the Tribe this season, going 16-7 with a 3.24 earned run average. He is coming off of two straight wins against the Minnesota Twins, outdueling reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana both times.
On Monday Sabathia scattered six hits over eight scoreless innings to nail down the win. He has given up no more than two earned runs in any of his last nine starts. A win today would match his career high he set in his rookie season set in 2001.
Sabathia beat the Angels earlier in the year and is 4-5 lifetime against them with a 4.96 ERA.
Los Angeles will counter with righty Ervin Santana, who is 6-12 with a 6.07 ERA. Santana earned his first win since June 9 on Monday against Oakland, as he held the A's to just two hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings.
Santana has faced the Indians four times, losing all four contests, while pitching to a 9.19 ERA.
In the second game of this set on Friday, Kendry Morales' run-scoring single in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted the Angels to a 3-2 win. Garret Anderson drove in a run for a franchise-record 12th consecutive game while Chone Figgins was 3-for-4 with three runs scored for the Angels, who have won four of their last five games and increased their comfortable lead atop the AL West to nine games over reeling Seattle.
Figgins led off the frame by slicing a Rafael Betancourt (4-1) pitch to right for a double and moved to third on Orlando Cabrera's sharply hit fly ball to right. Betancourt then issued an intentional pass to the red-hot Anderson in order to face Morales, who was 0-for-4 to that point. The designated hitter came through and lined a 1-2 breaking ball down the right-field line for the game-winner.
John Lackey allowed just one run on six hits in seven innings for LA but failed to win his 17th game of the year when star closer Francisco Rodriguez blew a one-run lead in the ninth.
Scot Shields (4-5) earned the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Ryan Garko homered for the Indians, who still lead Detroit in the AL Central by five games. Grady Sizemore added a run-scoring single.
The Angels have won five of their eight matchups with the Indians this season and are 15-10 in the series since the start of the 2005 campaign.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds
With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.
Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season. Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.
This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy. A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
