Robredo, Fish win second-rounders at Pilot Pen

08/20/2007 - New Haven, CT (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Second-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo and unseeded American Mardy Fish were second-round winners Monday at the $650,000 Pilot Pen Tennis event, a final tune-up for the U.S. Open.

Robredo handled Frenchman Marc Gicquel 6-4, 6-4 on the hardcourts at the Connecticut Tennis Center at Yale. Robredo and his fellow seeds all received opening-round byes this week.

The wild card Fish, meanwhile, knocked off seventh-seeded Italian Filippo Volandri 6-7 (4-7), 7-5, 6-0.

American Vincent Spadea snuck past Russian qualifier Evgeny Korolev 6-2, 5-7, 7-5; while Frenchman Arnaud Clement clocked South African qualifier Kevin Anderson 6-1, 6-4; Argentine Jose Acasuso erased Belgian Olivier Rochus 6-1, 7-6 (9-7); and Frenchman Julien Benneteau blitzed Spaniard Oscar Hernandez 6-2, 6-2 in opening-round action on Day 2 here. Clement will face third-seeded American James Blake, last week's Cincinnati Masters runner-up, in the second round.

Additional first-round wins came for Peru's Luis Horna, Spaniard Albert Montanes and Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, who erased Croatian qualifier Mario Ancic 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

Russian Nikolay Davydenko, this week's top seed, topped Argentine Agustin Calleri in last year's Pilot Pen finale. Davydenko will meet American Donald Young here on Tuesday.

The 2007 New Haven titlist will collect $84,000.

Huskers' Lucky hospitalized for undisclosed reason

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.

The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.

A nursing supervisor at the hospital said all questions about Lucky were being referred to the athletic department. The athletic department said there would be no further comment from the department or Lucky's family.

Lucky, from North Hollywood, Calif., started six games last season as a sophomore and was the team's second-leading rusher, with 728 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 383 yards. He averaged 19.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.
