Johnson continues to shine as Marlins slip past Brewers

Baseball Betting Lines

06/03/2010 - Miami, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Ronny Paulino paced the offense with two runs batted in, while Josh Johnson was solid in seven innings on the mound, as the Florida Marlins held off the Milwaukee Brewers, 3-2, in the finale of a four- game series.

Dan Uggla went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI for the Marlins, who finished a 10-game homestand with a 5-5 mark. Cody Ross, Gaby Sanchez, and Chris Coghlan each had two hits for the victors, winners of three of the contests in this series.

Johnson (6-2) allowed one run on seven hits, while fanning eight batters and walking three to pick up the win. The right-hander, who is 5-1 in eight home starts in 2010, hadn't allowed an earned run in 25 straight innings coming into Thursday's game. He also lowered his ERA to 2.10.

Rickie Weeks and Ryan Braun each knocked in a run for the Brewers, who have dropped four of their past five contests.

In his first MLB start since September 28, 2007, Chris Capuano (0-1) gave up three runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. He also struck out four and walked one to take the loss. The left-hander underwent the second "Tommy John" surgery of his career in May of 2008.

Florida drew first blood with a run in the second. Uggla singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and came around to score on Paulino's double to right.

The Marlins added two more runs in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead. Jorge Cantu led off with a double and crossed the plate on Uggla's two-bagger to left. Ross hit a bloop single to right and scored when Paulino reached base on second baseman Weeks' fielding error. Weeks was standing on the bag at second when he mishandled Paulino's grounder.

Milwaukee left at least one man on base in the fourth, fifth, and sixth frames.

The Brewers finally scored a run in the seventh. Jonathan Lucroy and pinch- hitter Joe Inglett hit consecutive one-out base singles to put men on the corners. Weeks followed with a sacrifice fly. After Craig Counsell walked, Braun grounded into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

Clay Hensley started on the mound for the Marlins in the eighth. He put men on first and second with two outs, but got Lucroy to fly out to end the frame.

Leo Nunez came on in the ninth to close the game out. An infield single from Weeks and Counsell's base hit up the middle put men on first and second with one out. Braun made it a one-run contest with a bloop RBI single to left. Nunez, though, got Prince Fielder to fly out and Corey Hart to strikeout to record his 12th save of the year.
