09/08/2007 - Flushing, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Tom Glavine took a perfect game into the sixth inning, but settled for the 303rd victory of his career as the New York Mets downed the Houston Astros, 3-1, in the second contest of a three-game series at Shea Stadium.

Glavine (13-6) won his sixth straight decision and tied Warren Spahn for 13th place on the all-time starts list with 665. Next up is Walter Johnson, who holds down the 12th position with 666 starts. The southpaw was perfect through five innings before Cody Ransom, a Tuesday call-up with September's expanded rosters, slapped a leadoff single to left in the sixth.

The veteran Glavine regrouped and gave up one run on three hits with four strikeouts over seven-plus innings. Billy Wagner pitched the ninth for his 31st save, while David Wright hit his 27th home run of the season for the Mets, who have won seven of eight after getting swept during a four-game series in Philadelphia.

Woody Williams (8-14) was saddled with the loss after yielding three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts during six innings. Ty Wigginton knocked in the lone run for Houston, which has lost four in a row and six of seven.

The Mets got on the scoreboard thanks to Wright's solo shot in the third then added another run in the fourth on back-to-back doubles from Shawn Green and Paul Lo Duca.

The lead grew to 3-0 during the fifth frame as Luis Castillo walked, stole second, moved to third on Wright's grounder to first and scored when Williams uncorked a wild pitch.

Houston cut the deficit to 3-1 in the eighth when Wigginton singled home Carlos Lee, the third straight single to start the frame. However, Aaron Heilman struck out pinch-hitter Luke Scott, Eric Munson and pinch-hitter Mike Lamb to strand the two baserunners.

Wagner then worked a perfect ninth with one strikeout.

Game Notes

Wright now has 93 RBI on the season...Castillo stole his 15th base...Green hit his 29th double, while Lo Duca drove him home with his 14th two-bagger of the campaign...Houston didn't record an extra-base hit...Lance Berkman committed his 11th error of the season in defeat...Attendance was 53,061.
